Staying resolute

Friday, December 29, 2023

Dedicated students, distinguished colleagues and dear friends,

Happy Friday! Happy New Year!

Wasn’t it just yesterday that I sent out my “first Friday of the new year” email this past January? Where has the time gone? The good news? We stayed resolute and accomplished what we had set out to do. More importantly, we remained one of the most student-centric universities, with one of the most affordable tuitions in the nation that placed us in the top 10 rankings of national publications like New York Times and Wall Street Journal. We had increases in enrollment in every category, and our graduates received multiple job offers and fetched the highest starting salaries among all public and private universities in our state. Our faculty had significant increases in their research expenditures as well as in competitive, peer-reviewed research grant funding that they received from national funding organizations. We had a successful recruiting year when we recruited nationally prominent faculty members and added to our pool of talented staff across the university. We established new programs in new fields of study and established new collaborative research centers.

To all our students, faculty and staff, I say thank you for believing in ourselves, in our mission and our North Star goals and direction.

To all of you, our students, faculty and staff, our alumni and friends, may you all enjoy a happy and healthy new year and a purposeful 2024 when we hope and plan to reach out and emotionally connect with our extended family and friends. May we all stay as resolute in March, June, August and beyond, as we plan to be in January.

Warmly,

-Mo.
