Dedicated students, distinguished colleagues and dear friends,
Good morning.
I was excited to share with you the achievements of engineers, particularly our engineers, over the last century as Engineers Week draws to a close. In light of current world events, however, I have set aside my usual Happy Friday message.
During times of uncertainty and anxiety, it is critical that we take stock of our own mental and physical health while also supporting and encouraging one another as much as possible. Even during times when it feels as though we are powerless to bring about change, we must not lose our hope and faith in humanity and the human spirit.
To our campus community I say, please know that you are not alone. And if you are feeling particularly anxious right now, I encourage you to access the resources we have available to help. The news of yesterday and the images of war, albeit in a distant land, was very unsettling for all of us, and I personally reached out for help to simply have a conversation.
Students, please know that our student well-being team is ready to provide guidance and support. Faculty or staff may seek services via the UM System’s Employee Assistance Program, and all students, faculty and staff have free access to Sanvello, a mobile app that can help you manage your well-being. Just search for the app via Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
During uncertain times like these, it is more important than ever to check on one another and to know that we are not alone.
Warmly,
-Mo.
