The Chancellor’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion II (CCDI-II) at Missouri S&T consists of students, faculty, staff and alumni working to help improve the university’s environment for learning, living and working. The committee has worked with the consulting firm Rankin & Associates to develop a campus climate survey on diversity and inclusion. We chose the theme Strength Through Diversity for this effort because we realize that our campus is stronger when we realize and bring together the unique strengths of our diverse parts.
We hope to have 100 percent participation in this survey. The results will be used to help campus leaders focus their efforts and resources on initiatives that will make Missouri S&T more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Missouri S&T Assessment of Campus Climate and Community
What is the purpose of this survey?
This survey was created to gather important information about our Missouri S&T’s climate in terms of diversity and inclusion. Campus leaders want to do all they can to ensure S&T is a welcoming environment to all, but need good data in order to make informed decisions about the campus climate. This survey is designed to provide that data directly from the source: the students, faculty and staff of Missouri S&T. The results will help us improve the environment for learning, living and working at S&T.
How will the survey results be used?
The survey results will be used to help Missouri S&T develop strategic initiatives to promote diversity, equity and community, and to help all areas of the campus focus their efforts to make the campus inclusive and welcoming for all.
Who is conducting this survey?
Rankin & Associates Consulting is conducting the survey on behalf of the university and in consultation with Missouri S&T’s Chancellor’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion II. Rankin and Associates has worked with more than 70 other colleges and universities on similar initiatives.
How do I know the information I provide will not be shared?
The survey is 100 percent confidential. The answers to the surveys will be submitted directly to Rankin and Associates. The IP address that is used in submitting the survey will be stripped when it reaches Rankin and Associates. The campus will receive reports of group results only (no individual answers) and no individual will be identifiable in the results.
In the event of any publication or presentation resulting from the assessment, no personally identifiable information will be shared. Your confidentiality in participating will be kept to the degree permitted by the technology used (e.g., IP addresses will be stripped when the survey is submitted). No guarantees can be made regarding the interception of data sent via the Internet by any third parties, however, to avoid interception of data, the survey is run on a firewalled web server with forced 256-bit SSL security. In addition, the external consultant (Rankin & Associates) will not report any group data for groups of fewer than 5 individuals that may be small enough to compromise confidentiality. Instead, Rankin & Associates will combine the groups to eliminate any potential for demographic information to be identifiable. Please also remember that you do not have to answer any question or questions about which you are uncomfortable.
Upon submission, all comments from participants will be de-identified in an attempt to make those comments anonymous. Thus, participant comments will not be attributable to their author nor to any demographic characteristics. However, depending on what you say, others who know you may be able to attribute certain comments to you. The anonymous comments will be analyzed using content analysis and submitted as an appendix to the survey report. In order to give “voice” to the quantitative data, some anonymous comments may be quoted in publications related to this survey.
When can I take the survey?
The survey will be administered online beginning April 2, 2012, and will continue for a minimum of two weeks. All students, faculty and staff are asked to take the survey
I don’t have access to a computer. May I still take the survey?
If you do not have access to a computer, you can use the public access computers on campus. A limited number of paper copies of the survey will also be available during regular working hours (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday at the Office of Human Resource Services, Affirmative Action, Diversity & Inclusion, Room 113 Centennial Hall on campus.
How long will the survey take?
The survey will take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete and must be completed in one sitting. If you close your browser, you will lose any responses you previously entered.
Will I be able to find out about the results of the survey?
The results of the survey will be reported in meetings for all members of the campus community. Survey participants will also be able to learn about the results from Missouri S&T’s CCDI-II website.
Are there incentives for taking the survey?
Yes. To encourage participation in the survey, Missouri S&T will give away three iPads – one each for a student, a faculty member and a staff member. Once you submit your survey responses you will be directed to a Thank-You page, where you may enter the drawing.
Participants are not required to enter the drawing, and no survey information is connected to entering the drawing.
I still have questions about the survey. Where may I obtain more information?
